More and more people are dealing with dementia. As a person, partner, child, friend or neighbor. Understanding what is going on in your loved one while continuing to take good care of yourself can be a challenge. Surplus organizes the Dementia and (N)u support group five times a year. The next group starts on September 9 from 10.30 to 12.00 in library Theek5 Raamsdonksveer.
During the eight weekly meetings of Dementia and (N)u, developed by the Into d'mentia Foundation, you as a family caregiver gain insight into what is happening in the mind of your loved one. You learn to cope better with behavior that changes, how to set boundaries and how to ensure balance in your own life. In addition, there is plenty of room to share experiences and find support from each other. We will discuss situations such as: “My partner keeps asking questions. I notice that my patience is running out, but then I feel guilty. How do I keep this up?” or “My mother wants to go home at night, even though she ís already home. She gets restless, even angry, when I try to reassure her. How do I deal with this?’ The course not only provides knowledge, but especially recognition, acknowledgment and practical tips. Together with other family caregivers we discuss the influence of dementia on brain, behavior and communication, care options, safety, finances and more.
